Smile Through It
Everything in life is connected, the highs and the lows. All things come together to teach us the virtues of life. Principles can be read in a book but we cannot fully comprehend them until we have experienced it. How we are to learn these lessons is always a mystery, when it is coming, we'll never know. But one thing is for sure, it comes. And if we allow it, it leaves behind a better human being.
In the midst of most of the lessons we are to learn, there is darkness and confusion. Doubt, worry, and regret have the ability to tear through us and leave us feeling hopeless. We are all the same in that way. And though we cannot understand why certain things happen when they happen, we can almost always understand why in retrospect.
Reflection is where we learn the true meaning of these blinding circumstances. We can find clarity in looking back at all we have experienced. And sometimes, it'll take a few tries before we get it right. It's unavoidable. I always say that "life will test you twice" and that it will. In fact, God will test you as many times needed until the lesson is learned and transcended upon. But what are we to do when we are facing these hardships once, twice, even three times over?
If there's one thing that proves "faking it until you make it" to be true, it's smiling even when you ache on the inside. Pain is inevitable at some point in our lives, but how we process pain is entirely up to us. This does not mean using a smile as a band-aid to cover up what you're truly feeling. No, it means to address your feelings, let them process in your mind and in your heart and then make the conscious choice to not allow them to weigh you down. That's how you sink you to the bottom.
Smiling can improve your mood, even when you don't mean it. No joke, it literally has the ability to rewire your brain into believing that everything is keen. And laughing can do that x's 10. It's up to you to keep a light heart. Life is not always going to be singing bluebirds and blooming daisies. Sometimes it's a freezing whirlwind of fire and ice. And guess what, you're always stronger than the challenges you face. As long as you remember that you are in control and the cannot be defeated by any external circumstance as long as your inner world is at peace.
So I say to you, whatever hardship you're faced with at this moment, be that heartbreak, the loss of a loved one, work-related stress, or all-of-the-above...you're always only a smile away from healing yourself. Believe that.
